KW-NT Applications

KW-NT Technology Advantages

Advanced Solid-State Powder Nitriding for Superior Mold Life

1. Suppresses Thermal Fatigue

The compressive stress layer formed by the diffusion layer effectively suppresses the occurrence and growth of thermal fatigue cracks.

2. No Brittle White Layer

Our process prevents the formation of a brittle compound (white) layer (Fe₂₋₃N, Fe₄N) on the surface, ensuring the base material retains its toughness.

3. Prevents Soldering

The formation of Fe-Cr₂O₄ or Cr₂N on the surface prevents grain boundary oxidation and damage by molten aluminum at high temperatures.

4. Retains Hardness

The surface layer maintains hardness for a longer period, reducing softening caused by high temperatures.

5. Reduces Friction

The nitrided surface layer significantly reduces intermetallic friction.

6. Slows Crack Growth

Fe-Cr₂O₄ or Cr₂N formed within initial thermal cracks can slow down the crack growth rate.

Process Capabilities & Precision

  • Adjustable Temperature : The process allows adjustable treatment temperatures from 450°C to 590°C, optimized for different steel grades.

  • Customized Diffusion Depth :

    • < 10 μm: For ultra-precision components.

    • 50–70 μm: For components requiring strength & toughness.

    • 70–100 μm: For HPDC and Hot Forging molds.

  • Uniformity in Complex Shapes : Unlike PVD or general nitriding, KW-NT achieves a uniformly thick layer even in blind holes or grooves.

Breakthrough: Direct Nitriding for Stainless Steel

Conventional nitriding requires harsh acid pickling to remove the chromium oxide film on stainless steel. The KW-NT Advantage: We can directly nitride SUS304, 316, 420, and 440C without strong acid cleaning, achieving surface hardness levels as high as Hv1000–1300. This simplifies the process and protects the environment.

Eco-Friendly

Non-Toxic & Safe: The KW treatment powder is a non-toxic inorganic substance that complies with RoHS standards and can be treated as general waste.
